You missed mentioning a couple brands which were popular there back in the day. Namely Norton and Velocette, both of who had a great racing history. Though it would be sacrilage to purists, I always thought the untimate stand-out bike would be a 4-pipe Squariel chopper with a radius-rod springer fork and a sprung-hub Triumph rear. Nobody would know what everything was so it would get a LOT of attention and questions.

Love the square four, not that hard to find if you want one and his pricing was high. Two, learn a little about British bikes, just because it shifts on the right and brakes on the left doesn’t make it wrong just different. Don’t ever forget NORTON! And last, the Ariel was never called the Rolls Royce of motorcycles, that was the Brough Superior which will now set you back $500K!

I'm fully against lane splitting and lane filtering because I had a close cousin killed by a motorcyclist doing exactly that. However I'd be willing to switch if: 1. a multi-tier license was setup based on CC and/or hp with a motorcycle safety course required for each level (25hp/250cc, 50hp/500cc, 75hp/750cc, and 100hp+/1000cc+) 2. Full motorcycle gear requirement while riding, including helmets rated against shattering. 3. Full registration of all motorcycles, including dirt bikes, which the funds of would go towards having law enforcement elements on motorcycles. 4. the motorcycle community as a whole starts (and continues) cracking down on the bad eggs in the community, including against anyone encouraging of breaking road rules and general LACK of respect for other motorists.

Very cool to see you make a video about this😎. I didn't know Turner designed the Square 4. He sure had a long career. I think he left Triumph in the 1970's. It'd be awesome if somebody made a new replica of this bike with water cooling

cruisers and heavy bikes are dangerous. Over the speed limit on a cruiser is dangerous, because they aren't designed for these speeds and can't handle sudden moves required in an emergency situation (not to mention most cruiser riders don't have the skills to make these moves.) Sport bikes and standards are safe at nearly double the speed limit because they are designed and capable of evasive moves at these speeds.Any bike with forward foot pegs is dangerous! Envision a situation where a car suddenly changes lanes and forces you off the road, either the median or over a curb into a ditch. If you can't stand on the pegs and ride it like a dirt bike, you have no chance of control, and will probably be thrown off the machine. Cruisers are a very poor choice for beginner riders, and an experienced rider would know better and would never choose a cruiser.

Aesthetically I feel like cruisers are trouncing adv bikes. Adv bikes are really starting to get the "SUV of motorcycles" reputation. But the sheer utilitarian value of the adv category is undeniable. I do, however, feel like the line between "sport touring" and "adv" is going to get more and more murky as 99% of people who buy "adv" bikes nearly never take them off road. This leads to bikes like the multistrada where it's "adv" in name only. It's really just sporting touring with more upright ergos and less weight.

Good to know. I have an old injury that makes my right hand go numb fairly quickly, but shaking out my hand for just a few seconds fixes it for a while. Highway and interstate riding are really the only times I'm bothered. I'll just take the cheap one.

My dad was a big Aeriel fan, and had both a square 4 and a red hunter. Once us kids were born, he got a Panther 120, 650 single, and a double adult sidecar. For a short time, he even had a job as sidecar salesman.

As a Brit, the Square Four is, along with the Brough Superior SS100 are two bikes that are right at the top of my Bucket List to ride. And yes, I can imagine the Square Four does not enjoy Texas weather; they suffered overheating problems in the UK, which is not famed for being particularly hot most of the time! And yes, I totally get the Limey Mechanic wanting one despite all the flaws. Such a random yet cool video Spite.

Harley's used to come with a Complimentary Pickup Truck so you could get it home. English vehicles were Blessed by Lucas Lord of Darkness!!!

T he age of the cruiser is over-for certain age groups-just keep your eyes open though, as they get a bit older you will see them on a cruiser eventually (most likely a Harley).

Thanks to Elijah for such a great breakdown of this classic bike. I live in the UK and have never seen one in the flesh. It would be quite an experience to ride one, not sure I'd want to own one though due to limited parts availability.

I agree HD is out of there mind woth the pricing and adv bikes do sound interesting to me, but i just dont like the looks of them (i know its super ficial of me) and i just want a bike im proud to look at.

I find my gen2 rsv to be way easier to ride then my streetfighter v4s in terms, you get way less fatigued on it. They are real good value for money and are reliable, the rotax engine is really good.

My favor vehicles, which I am going to keep forever are KLR650 and Geo Tracker. Both are bulletproof, go anywhere off road, simple, cheap and easy to fix if needs

To their credit the Britscwere innovative. Look too at Sunbeam and Wilkenson or Norton wankels. Sadly they were poor at refinement. Look at Lucas electrics or any carburetor brand.

I sold my victory v92c to get a super tenere a month ago. It’s a great bike, but lacks the fun factor I had with the old, slow v92

This one was great! Of course I'm a 72yr old guy who rode British bikes in the 60's and now ride a modern day RE. Don't beat me up too bad because I also ride a Ninja 400. Apples and Oranges.

The clx 700 sport I owned was a stellar performer. Excellent fit and finish. Never had a hiccup. Rode it for nearly two years. I'd definitely buy another CF MOTO.

Lucas Industries. 😂 When I was in shop class, the teacher would always refer to Lucas as the “Reigning prince of darkness”. We had a kid in class with an old Land Rover which drove home the point. We practically rewired that entire car throughout the school year.
